DEPARTMENT OF BIOCHEMISTRY GMC HANDWARA

The Department of Biochemistry is run by a group of experienced and talented doctors and faculty who provide diagnostic laboratory services to outpatients and inpatients. The department is equipped with the latest instruments and well-established laboratory facilities for conducting the critical biochemical tests. The laboratory is intended to serve as a referral laboratory for physicians of this hospital. The laboratory is committed to maintaining highest quality of performance using the latest technology and equipment that enables us to provide rapid and reliable results for the patient in the shortest turnaround time. Faculty and students are encouraged to do research and publish scientific papers. The broad goal of teaching the undergraduate students in biochemistry is to make them understand the scientific basis of the life processes at the molecular level and to orient them towards the application of the knowledge acquired in solving clinical problems. This is essential to understand the complex biochemical interactions within the human body both in health and in disease.

  • The Department of Biochemistry is committed to education, research, patient care, and training UG students to acquire an in-depth knowledge of the fundamental principles of the subject of Biochemistry. So that he/she can apply this knowledge, for understanding the basis of health and disease.
  • Accomplish best Teaching learning Practices for effective application of Clinical Biochemistry in Clinical Practice.
  • The department is dedicated to excel students in fundamental knowledge of Biochemistry to understand life at molecular level, application of scientific methods in innovative research and provide health care to the community.

Objectives :

  • To impart the chemical & structural knowledge about biomolecules.
  • To provide an understanding of the biochemical and molecular basis of disease.
  • To integrate biochemical events with structure and function of body in health and diseases.
  • To enable students to use this knowledge in biochemical analysis to interpret by using recent techniques.
  • To encourage the staff to update the recent biochemical concepts and engage in research biochemical concepts and engage in research activities.
