The department of Dermatology, Venereology and Leprosy, under the guidance of Principal GMC Handwara, is committed to provide quality healthcare, community service and academic research. We aim to provide professional services in the field of dermatology not only to the people of Handwara but also to the whole of District Kupwara and also to the people of adjoining areas of North Kashmir.

Mission:

  • To provide patients access to:
    1.Professional dermatological consultation.
    2.In -patient dermatological services.
    3.Dermato-surgical procedures.
  • To spread awareness about healthcare involving Skin diseases, Sexually transmitted diseases and Leprosy at hospital and community level.
  • To conduct both hospital and community based academic research.
  • Providing comprehensive teaching and training to under-graduate students.

Vision :

  • To develop a department with state of art facilities involving:
    1.Well-equipped Dermato-surgery theatre.
    2.Lasers for laser hair removal, pigmentary disorders, ablation and vascular disorders.
    3.Phototherapy units for vitiligo, psoriasis and other keratinisation disorders.
    4.Feasibility for diagnostic procedures like skin biopsy for HPE and DIF, patch tests and slit-skin smear for leprosy and leishmaniasis
    5.Separate special clinics for leprosy, contact dermatitis, connective tissue disorders, malignancies and others.
  • To conduct advanced clinical research in the field of Dermatology, Venereology and Leprosy and publish research papers in national and international journals.
  • To start post graduate programme in Dermatology, Venerology and Leprology at GMC Handwara.
