DEPARTMENT OF ORTHOPAEDICS GMC HANDWARA

Welcome to the Department Of Orthopaedics, GMC, Handwara, Jammu & Kashmir. Our department is particularly focused on research, academics and patient care. We provide outpatient services six days per week with an average OPD count of 150-200 patients per day. Excellence in patient care, research, and education is the overall goal of the department. The department provides a comprehensive and integrated Orthopaedic program for patients, students and residents. In addition to general Orthopaedics and trauma, the department has a faculty which specializes in the field of joint replacement, sports medicine, hand surgery, musculoskeletal oncology, paediatric orthopaedics, spine surgery and treatment of complex trauma. The recent innovations in orthopaedic surgery such as minimally invasive joint replacement, revision hip and knee replacements, vascularised grafting for non unions, arthroscopic ACL and shoulder surgery are all being practiced.

Mission:

  • To provide round-the-clock trauma care facilities to the community.
  • To diversify and augment growth of Orthopaedic sub-specialities like Arthroplasty, Arthroscopy, Spine surgery, Traumatology, etc.
  • To Co-ordinate with other departments for the holistic care of the patients.
  • To provide a structured teaching to the undergraduates and make efforts to upgrade the department to a post-graduate level.

  • Upgrade the department to post-graduate level.
  • Diversify and provide Orthopaedic super-speciality services.
  • Augment the growth of arthroplasty, arthroscopy, spine and paediatric Orthopaedics.
  • Transform our centre into a tertiary care referral centre and an island of excellence.
